"Troubadour" Virginal Kit

from $4,235.00

Harpsichordists have often inquired about a small harpsichord, something that could be handled by one person and easily transported to continuo and accompanying engagements. It would have to have a big sound, one that could cut through a small orchestra or ensemble; and it must be stable, so that frequent tuning wasn’t required. Such an instrument would serve not only the professional but, also those who are looking for a relatively small harpsichord for home use. So we designed the “Troubadour” virginal. This harpsichord is not based on any particular antique; we studied a wide range of southern European virginals. The “Troubadour” is lightly built but strong enough so no outer case is required. The exterior is a simple naturally finished cedar enlivened by cherry molding. Offered in various stages of construction for the builder with precision-cut parts, hardware, specialty tools, drawings and comprehensive construction manuals.

Specifications:

Range: 1x8’, 54 notes, C-f’’’, transposable A415/440; extra key in bass for either short octave (GG/BB) or desired note

Dimensions: approx. 52” x 22” x 7.5”, approx. 48 pounds

Action: Maple naturals with cherry sharps, Sitka spruce soundboard, antique style music wire

Casework: Cedar with cherry moldings; removable music desk

Instruction manual in English with photographs; full-size Mylar drawing
