1984 Hubbard French Double Manual Harpsichord
Presenting a fine example of a Hubbard Taskin model from the 1980s, with the William Dowd style folding music desk and sturdy trestle stand. The quality of Hubbard kits has been excellent through the years, and the builder of this harpsichord, Jack Vandenryn, did an impeccable job with the build such that the case is quite stable and the sound is sonorous and pleasing. The design itself represents the Hubbard take on the machinations of 17th and 18th-century harpsichord-building practice which is to say the case has its design roots in the tried and true practices of the Flemish builders. The tone is lovely and booming. The range of 63 notes (FF-g''') permits the performance of virtually the entire harpsichord repertoire. Two tone case paint with 22K gold bands and professional soundboard painting.
This particular instrument was owned by a church in New York until it was purchased by one of our professional harpsichordists on staff for her personal use. We recently brought it to playing condition with new strings and action overhaul. It retains the original Hubbard jacks—well known for their firm tongue and ready response under the touch. This would make an excellent instrument for a serious student, institution or professional music organization.
